Inspirational leaders from throughout the international world of wine will be meeting in Florence in May for the 8th Symposium of the Institute of Masters of Wine, generously sponsored by the Istituto Grandi Marchi.

The Symposium – whose theme is Identity, Innovation and Imagination – will bring together almost 100 Masters of Wine and a roster of top speakers from inside the industry and beyond. The three day programme will deal with issues such as global marketing, science versus belief, key wine research and coping with the changing media world. It will also include a world first, as 20 Master of Wine winemakers present their own wines in a walk around tasting.

The MW Symposium, which is held every four years, is a landmark conference open to all wine industry professionals. The combined expertise and cutting edge insight of the speakers spans every aspect of the global wine business. Among the highlight speakers are Daniel Alegre, President of Worldwide Partnerships for Google, José Vouillamoz, the famous Swiss grape geneticist, Gerard Basset OBE MS MW MBA, winner of the World’s Best Sommelier title (2010), and Stephen Henschke of the historic Henschke estate in the Barossa Valley.

Jean-Michel Valette MW, Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine, said: ‘The Florence Symposium is a cornerstone in our mission of promoting excellence, interaction and learning in the global wine trade. By joining a diverse group of leaders from all walks of the wine world, delegates will enjoy insider access to news of the latest thinking and innovations, not to mention a unique opportunity to network at the highest levels of influence and understanding within and around the wine industry.

Marchese Piero Antinori, Chairman of the Istituto Grandi Marchi said ‘We are delighted to host the 2014 Symposium in Florence, and are very proud of the association between the Institute of Masters of Wine and our members in the Istituto Grand Marchi. This promises to be a fabulously rewarding three days.’
